Sound record and voice over

Professional narration and soundtrack is as important as dynamic video images.

Sound effects help form an unforgettable atmosphere in the spectator’s “presence”.

Screen images haven’t changed much in quality after the introduction of color. But the principles and the quality of the sound accompaniment have changed completely. Unlike the image, which stays smooth on the screen, the sound has already become volumetric.

Askania-Nova Arts uses Dolby Digital standard when recording the sounds for corporate and industrial videos. Dolby Digital provides high quality sound encoding. The first application of this technology was used in June 1992 in movie theatres. It provides multi-channel reproduction to produce 3D sound.

Dolby digital technology was first used in the movie “Batman Returns”. Now the Dolby format is the standard in the USA for High Definition Television, satellite links and cable TV. The standard sound formats for the countries which use the PAL or NTSC TV system are PCM and Dolby Digital. Dolby is brought home by DVD technology. You can find the sound in AC-3 format either on DVD-Videos or ordinary DVD-ROMs. There are three general sound standards for DVD records. They are PCM, Dolby Digital and MPEG. Almost every DVD-player has an AC-3 built-in decoder and almost every DVD sound track is in Dolby digital format.

So, what is Dolby Digital or AC-3? The full name for the format is Dolby Digital 5.1. The name describes the sound distribution on six channels in space. All the six channels are packed into one stereo file, which is unpacked with a special decoder and divided into six audio columns. According to the AC-3 format the sound is heard from five wide-band columns: left, right, rear left, rear right, central and from one narrow band, which is used for low frequency effects only, which are better felt than heard in the movie theatres. The numbers 5.1 in the format’s name indicate five general channels and one low frequency channel. Dolby Digital is a great step forward comparing to Dolby Surround where there was only one channel with 100 Hz-7 Hz pass-band instead of two wide-band full fledged rear channels, concerning perception of the spatial sound.

The Dolby Digital format has gained worldwide popularity very quickly.
